In the New Jersey market, couples typically see a single Indian wedding event filmed for a fee in the low thousands, a full wedding day with two cinematographers in the mid to high four figures, and a multi-day weekend with a highlight film, a feature film and a same-day edit well into the five figures. Where your wedding falls depends on seven things, and they are the same seven whether you book film on its own or alongside photography. Here they are, from a studio that has filmed its own weddings since 2016.
Why does Indian wedding videography cost more than a typical wedding film?
A Western wedding film usually covers one day, one ceremony of thirty minutes and a reception. An Indian wedding film covers a haldi that ruins everyone's clothes, a mehndi that runs into the evening, a sangeet with rehearsed performances, a baraat with a dhol, a ceremony that can last two or three hours, and a reception that ends after midnight. Every one of those is a separate call time, a separate set of cameras and microphones, and a separate day of editing. The cost is not a premium for the word "Indian" — it is the arithmetic of more events, more hours and more footage.
The seven things that set the cost
- Events and days. The single biggest factor. Filming a sangeet and filming a wedding weekend are different jobs, priced differently for good reason.
- The size of the crew. One cinematographer can film an intimate ceremony. A 400-guest wedding with a baraat on the drive and the bride getting ready two floors up needs two — and a large sangeet benefits from a third angle on the stage.
- The films you receive. A four-minute highlight, a thirty-minute feature, a full-ceremony edit and a same-day edit are four separate pieces of editing work.
- Audio. The vows, the priest's mantras, the father's speech. Recording them properly means lapel microphones on the couple and the officiant and a feed from the DJ's board, not a camera microphone at the back of the room.
- Gear and drone. Multi-camera 4K capture, stabilisers and a licensed drone pilot where the venue allows one.
- Editing time. This is where most of the cost lives, and couples rarely see it. Films are crafted by editors over weeks, not days.
- Travel. Local weddings usually carry no travel cost; destination weekends add flights and accommodation.
What each film deliverable actually involves
| Deliverable | What it is | Why it changes the cost |
|---|---|---|
| Highlight film | Four to six minutes, scored to music, covering the whole celebration | The most edited minutes of the package — every second is chosen |
| Feature film | Twenty to thirty minutes with the vows, speeches and ceremony in full | Needs clean audio from every source, synced across cameras |
| Full ceremony edit | The ritual from start to finish, multi-camera | Hours of footage from two or three angles, cut together |
| Same-day edit | The morning and ceremony, cut on site and screened at the reception | An editor working through the day, plus the equipment to show it |
| Social cuts | Vertical edits for Instagram and Reels | A separate edit built for a phone screen |
| Drone | Aerial frames of the venue and the baraat | A licensed pilot and the venue's permission |
When you read a quote, find these lines. A proposal that says "cinematic film" without a length, or "full coverage" without saying which events, is not something you can compare.
One studio for photography and film, or two vendors?
You can hire a photographer and a videographer separately, and many couples do. The cost question is only half of it. Two crews who have never met will negotiate for the same two square feet in front of the mandap, each with their own timeline and their own lights. We brought cinematography in-house in 2016 for exactly that reason: one team, one shot list agreed in advance, and a film that shares a look with the photographs. Our Indian wedding films page shows how that looks in practice, including highlight films from The Palace at Somerset and Perona Farms.
Whether one studio is cheaper than two depends on the quotes. Compare the same events, the same crew size and the same deliverables, and the answer is usually clear.
How we price film
We do not publish a separate film price list, because film is built into a proposal for your actual weekend. For a sense of scale, our single-celebration collections begin in the mid four figures, and most couples who celebrate across a full wedding weekend with photography and film make a low-to-mid five-figure investment. The wedding-day collection brings a photography team and a cinematography team side by side; the wedding-weekend collection adds the feature film and the highlight film across every event, and includes the same-day edit, which is available as an add-on to any other collection. Travel within 90 miles of New Jersey is always included, so New York City and Philadelphia weddings carry no travel cost. The investment page explains how the collections are built and what every one includes.
How to compare two Indian wedding videography quotes
- Which events, and for how long? "Wedding day" can mean six hours or twelve. Ask for the events by name.
- How many cinematographers, and who are they? Named people, not "a team".
- Which films, at what length? A highlight, a feature, the full ceremony, social cuts — each one listed.
- How is the audio recorded? If the answer does not include lapel microphones and the DJ's board, the speeches may not survive.
- When is each film delivered? Ours: highlight films in ten to twelve weeks, the feature about three weeks after that.
- What is a line item? Drone, same-day edit, extra events, raw footage — read the small print before the total.
Our fifteen questions to ask an Indian wedding videographer go further, and the companion guide on what an Indian wedding photographer costs in New Jersey covers the photography side of the same budget.
Is a wedding film worth it?
Photographs hold a moment; film holds the sound of it — your father's voice in the speech, the priest's mantras, the dhol at the baraat. Couples who include film tend to call it the best decision they made. And the couples who leave it out are the ones most likely to write a year later asking whether we happened to record the speeches. If the budget is tight, a highlight film and the full ceremony from the wedding day alone is a sensible place to start; the sangeet can follow.
When should you book an Indian wedding videographer?
At the same time as your photographer, and ideally from the same conversation. Peak-season Saturdays in New Jersey — May and June, September to November — are often reserved more than a year ahead, and the cinematographers a studio trusts most go with them. Booking both together also means the film team is on the planning call, sees the timeline and walks the venue, rather than meeting the photographers at the baraat. If you are marrying in the state, our Indian wedding photographer in New Jersey page explains how a weekend usually runs with us, and you can check your date in two minutes.
You are not paying for hours of footage. You are paying for the weeks someone spends turning it into the twenty minutes your family will watch for the rest of their lives.
Frequently asked
How much does an Indian wedding videographer cost in New Jersey?
In the New Jersey market, couples typically see a single event filmed for a fee in the low thousands, a full wedding day with two cinematographers in the mid to high four figures, and a multi-day weekend with highlight, feature and same-day edit well into the five figures. Events, crew size, deliverables, audio, drone, editing and travel decide where a wedding lands.
Is it cheaper to book photography and videography from the same studio?
It is usually simpler, and the film and photographs share one timeline and one look. Whether it is cheaper depends on the quotes: compare the same events, the same crew size and the same deliverables side by side. Our proposals list photography and film together so you can see exactly what each part covers.
What is the difference between a highlight film and a feature film?
A highlight film is four to six minutes, scored to music, covering the whole celebration — the one you share. A feature film is twenty to thirty minutes with the vows, the speeches and the ceremony in full — the one your parents sit down and watch. Most Indian wedding couples want both.
How long does it take to receive an Indian wedding film?
Our highlight films are delivered in ten to twelve weeks, and feature films follow about three weeks later. A same-day edit is screened at the reception the same night. Ask every videographer for their delivery dates in writing, and what happens if they slip.
Do you charge travel to film weddings in New York or Philadelphia?
No. Travel within 90 miles of New Jersey is included in every collection, which covers New York City and Philadelphia. Destination weddings are quoted openly in the proposal, with flights, accommodation and a day either side written in, so there are no surprises later.
